The verbal part of SAT is notorious for its use of obscure words. Opinions
are divided on whether a test that emphasizes knowledge of words
that are rarely used in many people's cultural context is unfair and
discriminatory. My feeling is that the emphasis that SAT makes on
vocabulary is somewhat excessive. Regardless of this, you need to
get a good SAT score now.
The best way to develop your vocabulary is to watch less TV and read
more books. The TV producers want as many people as possible to
watch their programs, and therefore they try to make them accessible
to even the most retarded individuals. That limits the universe of words that are
acceptable for producing TV programs.
The second best way to improve your vocabulary is to play the vocabulary game that I have created.
