Question 965489: Sheila needs to determine the equation of a line passing through the point (-6, -2) that is perpendicular to y = 2x - 4. Which equation best represents Sheila's equation?
A. y = -2x - 5
B. y = -2x - 14
C. y = -1/2x - 2
D. y = -1/2x - 5
I'm horrible at these so I REALLY appreciate the help! Thank you so much!

You can put this solution on YOUR website! The line perpendicular to the line y = 2x - 4 has a slope = the negative reciprocal of the line y = 2x - 4, then
slope of perpendicular line is -1/2 ans so far the equation is
y = (-1/2)x + b
we use the given point (-6, -2) to determine b
-2 = (-1/2)-6 + b
-2 = 3 + b
b = -5, therefore
y = (-1/2)x -5
answer is D
