Question 86709: 1)Write an equation of the circle with center (1,-1) if (-1/2,-1) lies on the circle
I know this is not suppose to be in this catagory but i really need help with this problem.
2) The slope of any line perpendicular to the line y=-1/3x-4

You can put this solution on YOUR website! 1)Write an equation of the circle with center (1,-1) if (-1/2,-1) lies on the circle
-------
EQUATION:
(x-1)^2 + (y+1)^2 = r^2
If it passes thru ((-1/2),-1), solve for r as follows
(-1/2 - 1)^2 + (-1+1)^2 = r^2
(-3/2)^2 + 0^2 = r^2
r = (3/2)
EQUATION:
(x-1)^2 + (y+1)^2 = (9/4)
-----------------------------
2) The slope of any line perpendicular to the line y=-1/3x-4
The given line has a slope of -1/3
Any line perpendicular to it must have a slope of 3/1
-----------------------------
