Question 770564: Ok, my homework is asking me to find the slope of a line that is parallel to the line 5x-7y= 28. My prior notes tell me that if lines are parallel, then the lines have the same slope. If that is true, i thought it should be 5. The answer tells me it is 5/7. I am very confused and I don't understand how to get 5/7. Please help, thank you.

You can put this solution on YOUR website! 5x-7y= 28
---------------
Solve for y
7y = 5x - 28
y = (5/7)x - 4
----------------
The slope is the coefficient of x, 5/7, when the equation is in this form,
called slope-intercept form.
------
Solving for y puts it in that form.
