You can put this solution on YOUR website!
What is the equation of the line that passes through (3,-1) and parallel to y=-4x+1
:
Use the point slope form y - y1 = m(x - x1)
Parallel lines have the same slope, therefore m = -4, we have
x1=3, y1--1; m=-4
y - (-1) = -4(x - 3)
y + 1 = -4x + 12
y = -4x + 12 - 1
y = -4x + 11, is the equation of the parallel line
:
;
Check this, replace x with 3
y = -4(3) + 11
h = -12 + 11
y = -1
