Question 699282: I have a question that goes like this: The school board has voted to have the school track repaved, what is the total expense if the charge is $3.20 per square foot? It also says to use 3.14 for pi. the track is a outer rim and has a diameter (i guess thats what its called) of 20 feet the inside circle has a radius of 200 feet.
Please help, my mom started yelling at me because of it so please help!
I have the equation its just that I really dont understand how to plug in the numbers and actually solve the problem.

Nobody really cares if your Mom is yelling at you. Just saying "I don't understand how to plug in the numbers" tells me that you simply haven't been paying attention in class and you haven't been reading your text book. So quit wasting our time with the whiny dramatics and just post the complete question, what is giving you difficulty, and what you have tried so far. For example, on this question, you say you have the equation. So why didn't you post it?
Since you didn't give a length for a possible straight part of an oval track, I have to assume that the track is circular. (You should have said so. Having to guess makes me do extra work. I shouldn't have to to extra work when I'm helping you for free.) You need to know the area of the track which is the area of a large circle with radius 200 feet plus the 20 foot width of the track - that is to say feet minus the area of the inner circle which is a circle with radius 200 feet, i.e.
The area of a circle is given by
So
Take the value for discussed above and put it in the indicated place. Take the value of discussed above and put it in the indicated place. Replace with 3.14. Do the arithmetic. Round to the nearest foot (your least precise input measurements are given to the nearest foot.) Multiply the area of the track times $3.20.

You can put this solution on YOUR website! The school board has voted to have the school track repaved,
what is the total expense if the charge is $3.20 per square foot?
It also says to use 3.14 for pi. the track is a outer rim and has a width 20
feet the inside circle has a radius of 200 feet.:
From the information given the outer radius which includes the track is 220 ft
:
Find the total area of this
A = 3.14*220^2
A = 151976 sq/ft
:
The inner circle are is not paved, find the area of that
A = 3.14*200^2
A = 125600
:
Paved area = 151976 - 125600 =
:
multiply this answer by 3.20 to find the Cost to pave the track
