You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let x = length of first piece and y be length of the second (longer) piece

The pipe is 90 cm, so x%2By=90

"one piece is 6 cm shorter than the other.", so y+=+x%2B6

Now use these equations to find x and y.

x%2By=90

x%2Bx%2B6=90

2x%2B6=90

2x=90-6

2x=84

x=84%2F2

x=42

So the first piece is 42 cm

y+=+x%2B6

y+=+42%2B6

y+=+48

and the second piece is 48 cm
