You can put this solution on YOUR website!
We first solve 8x-4y = -4 for y.

-4y = -8x - 4

y = (-8x - 4)/-4

y = 2x + 1

We now use the point-slope formula and the slope just found. The slope is the coefficient of x in the equation y = 2x + 1. The slope is 2.

Let (1,-3) = (a,b)

The point-slope formula is y - b = slope(x - a).

y - (-3) = 2(x - 1)

y + 3 = 2x - 2

y = 2x - 2 - 3

y = 2x - 5

The equation y = 2x - 5 is EXACTLY the same equation given in choice (a).

The answer is choice (a).
