Two angles are complementary. One angle is four times as large as the other angle. What is the measure of both angles?
Sol'n:
when complementary angle, the sum is 90 degrees.
then, let x-the larger angle & y - the smaller angle.
x+y=90 ----(1)
x=4y ----(2)
substitute (2) into (1).
4y+y=90
5y=90
y=18
for x:
x=90-18
x=72
thus, 72 degrees and 18 degrees are the two angle.---answer
