You can put this solution on YOUR website!
One circle has a radius of 1/2 and another circle has a radius of 1. What is the ratio of the area of the larger circle to the area of the smaller circle?
A. 2:1 B. 3:1 C. 3:2 D. 4:1 E. 5:2
.
Since area of a circle is (pi)r^2
.
Area with radius of 1/2:
(pi)r^2 =(pi)(1/2)^2 = (1/4)(pi)
.
Area with radius of 1:
(pi)r^2 =(pi)(1)^2 = (pi)
.
Ratio of larger to smaller circle:
(pi):(1/4)(pi)
= (pi)/[(1/4)(pi)]
= 1/(1/4)
= 4
Answer would be D: 4:1
