Question 328276: A ladder is resting against a wall. The top of the ladder touches the wall at a height of 6 ft. Find the length of the ladder if the length is 2 feet more than its distance from the wall. Answer by mananth(16946) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! let the distance of the foot of the ladder to the wall be x feet
length of ladder = x+2
height at which it touches the wall = 6 feet
They form a right triangle
(x+2)^2= x^2+6^2
x^2+4x+4=x^2+36 ( x^2 cancels off)
4x+4=36
4x=36-4
4x=32
x=32/8
x=8
x+2 = 8+2 = 10 feet is the length of the ladder.
