Question 215925: I have a square that is inscribed into a circle. The area of the square is 64 square centimeters. I need to find the area of the shaded portion of the circle. The square touches the circle at each corner. Between each corner, there is the shaded area (from corner to corner to the outside edge of the circle.
I hope this makes sense. Answer by Theo(13342) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Area of the square is 64 square centimeters
Square root of that is 8 cm which is the length of each side of the square.
Diagonal of the square is square root of (8^2 + 8^2 = 128).
Square root of 128 is 11.3137.
Half of that is 5.6568.
That is the radius of the circle.
Area of the circle is * radius squared = * (5.6568)^2 = 100.53096 square cm.
Area of the part of the circle not covered by the square is 100.53096 square cm minus 64 = 36.53096 square cm.
