Question 1170278: A portion of copper has the following description;
Length: 4 in.
Width: 2 in.
Thickness: 1/2 in.
The portion is formed into a wire 100 yards in length and uniform thickness. Determine wire diameter.
Volume of portion: 4 * 2 * .5 = 4 cu. in.
Wire length: 100 * 36 = 3600 in. (36 in. per yard).
Wire is a cylinder.
Volume of cylinder: Pi * r^2 * height (or length).
3.1416 * r^2 * 3600
Not sure how to proceed.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Formula for volume of a cylinder, and keeping all lengths as inches, 4=100%2A36%2Api%2Ar%5E2, and diameter is 2r.

and then a few steps of just simple algebra:
1=25%2A36pi%2Ar%5E2
r%5E2=1%2F%2825%2A36%2Api%29
r=1%2F%285%2A6%2Asqrt%28pi%29%29
2r=1%2F%2815%2Asqrt%28pi%29%29

highlight%282r=0.0376%29
