You are standing 50 feet from the center of a circular swimming pool.
The distance from you to a point of tangency is 25 feet.
What is the approximate radius of the pool? Round to the nearest tenth.
:
At the point of tangency a right angle between the radius and the line tangent to where you are standing,
therefore
r^2 + 25^2 = 50^2
r^2 = 2500 - 625
r = sqrt%281875%29
r = 43.3 ft is the radius

----------------
The angle between the radius and any tangent line is 90 degs --> a right triangle.

50 feet is the hypotenuse of the right triangle.
