Question 1128478: "Write an equation in slope-intercept form for the line that passes through the given point and is perpendicular to the graph of the line."
(-1,4),y=3x+5
I just want to get a second opinion on my answers to see if they are right.
My answers are "y=-4x and y=-1/3+11/3."
Can you please tell me if they are right. Please and Thank You.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
an equation in slope-intercept form for the line:
y=mx%2Bb where m is a slope and b is y-intercept

if line is perpendicular to the graph of the line y=3x%2B5, its slope must be negative reciprocal of the 3 (which is a slope of the given line) and it is:
m=-1%2F3
so far, equation of the perpendicular line is:
y=-%281%2F3%29x%2Bb

if the line passes through (-1,4),we will use it to find b
4=-%281%2F3%29%28-1%29%2Bb
4=%281%2F3%29%2Bb
b=4-%281%2F3%29
b=11%2F3

y=-%281%2F3%29x%2B11%2F3=> your answer
