Question 1014668: A right triangle is formed by the x-axis, the y-axis, and the line y = -2x +5.
A. Draw out what this looks like on graph paper.
B. On your drawing, label the hypotenuse of the triangle you drew by writing HYPOTENUSE on one of the lines.
C. Find the length of the hypotenuse. Show all of your work, including the formula you used, to find the length.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
The graphing is done very easily and you could use the line to read the axis intercepts. The Pythagorean right triangle formula can then be used for calculating the distance between the intercepts and that is the length of the hypotenuse.

The equation of the line already gives you (0,5).

-2x+5=y
-2x=y-5
x=(y-5)/(-2)
x=(0-5)/(-2)
x=5/2
-
The other intercept is ( 5/2, 0).

The hypotenuse length is sqrt%28%285%5E2%29%5E2%2B%285%2F2%29%5E2%29;
compute that.
