I don't understand how this can work because these angles are on the diagonal inside the rhombus not on one of the vertices.

Hint: if you draw the rhombus, you'll see that the angles LST and TSM are adjacent angles (ie they are next to one another). Recall that adjacent angles of any parallelogram are supplementary which means that the two angles add to 180 degrees. So add up the angles and set them equal to 180 to get %2811x-24%29%2B%283x%2B8%29=180 and solve for 'x'. Then use the solution to find the individual angles.
