Question 1140046: A cell phone company is installing a cell phone tower in the area. The service range of the town is circular where the center is the circle is the cell phone tower. To get to the cell phone tower from you’re house you would need to drive west 6 miles and then north 8 miles
A) the cell phone company tells you that your House is right on the edge of the cell phone towers service range. How far from the tower can the service reach ?
B) you’re friends house is 1 mile east and 5 miles north of you. mathematically show if your friends house is within the cell phone towers range

You can put this solution on YOUR website!

(1) From the tower to your house: 6 miles east, 8 miles south.

That makes a right triangle; use the Pythagorean Theorem to find the distance.

(2) From the tower to your friend's house (not "you're friends"!): 6+1=7 miles east; 8-5=3 miles south.

Use the Pythagorean Theorem again to see if that distance is less than the answer from (1).
