Question 1128467: "Write an equation in slope-intercept form for the line that passes through the given point and is perpendicular to the graph of the line."

(-1,4),y=3x+5
I have already done half of the problem the first equation is y=-4x correct me if I'm wrong. I just don't understand the second part of the question. Can you help me out? Please and thank you.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
----
"Write an equation in slope-intercept form for the line that passes through the given point and is perpendicular to the graph of the line."
(-1,4),y=3x+5
----

Given equation is of slope 3.
Line PERPENDICULAR to it will have slope -1%2F3.

y=-x%2F3%2Bb

Solve for b, and substitute x=-1,and,y=4 to find the value for b.

b=y%2Bx%2F3
