Could you explain  PLEASE  what is  "1  in. circle"  in your post ?

Is it the circle of radius  1  or the diameter  1 ?

The centers of 3 circles in contact form an equilateral triangle.
The radius of the outer circle is the distance from the center of the triangle to the center of one of the 3 circles + r.
