When 5 students failed = x-5
Total = 500
Increased by 5 = +5
500%2Fx-500%2F%28x-5%29=5
500[(x)-(x-5)]=5[(x)(x-5)]
500%285%29=5%28x%5E2-5x%29
2500=5x%5E2-25x
5x%5E2-25x-2500
x%5E2-5x-500=0%2Cx
Facotr the quadratic equation:
(x+20)(x-25)
x=-20 and x= 25
Remove the negative. And:
Hence, the total number of students were 25.
