you would add them as you would any fractions...look for the lowest common multiple etc.

So, 4%2Fx%5E3y+%2B+7%2Fxy%5E2 will need x%5E3y%5E2 as the denominator. If this is so, then the first term will have to be multiplied by y/y (ie 1) and the second term will have to be multiplied by x%5E2%2Fx%5E2, as:
