A quadratic has a variable of degree 2 (an exponent of two). From the word "quad", which means squared, a quadratic equation has a squared variable.
Examples:x%5E2=4;+x%5E2%2B4x%2B16=0
NOT quadratic:x=4;+4x%2B14=0
