What method was used to solve this problem?
The quadratic formula was used to solve the problem.
4x^2-8x+3=5
First put the equation in this form: highlight%28ax%5E2%2Bbx%2Bc=0%29
4x^2-8x-2=0
Then,(and this is optional) they divided every thing by the greatest common factor, 2.
2x^2-4x-1=0
a=2 b=-4 and c=-1
The quadratic formula is: highlight%28x=%28-b%2B-sqrt%28b%5E2-4ac%29%29%2F%282a%29%29
x=%28-%28-4%29%2B-sqrt%28%28-4%29%5E2-4%282%29%28-1%29%29%29%2F%282%282%29%29
x=4+-square root 16-4*2*-1/4
x=4+-square root 24/4
