You can put this solution on YOUR website!
x%5E2=256

sqrt%28x%5E2%29=sqrt%28256%29 Take the square root of both sides

which breaks down to

x=16 or x=-16

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Solve the equation by using the square root method. x^2 = 256
Rewrite as x^2 = 2^8
Take the square root of each side to get:
x = 2^4 = 16 or x = -2^4 = -16
