Question 87732: I am having a very difficult time solving this quatratic equation, any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated!
(x-4)^2 = 3.
I have worked it over a couple of times and I have ended up with the answer: 4+/- sqrt.5 (is that right?)
Thank you!

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
THe first step is to put this in ax%5E2%2Bbx%2Bc=0 form:
%28x-4%29%5E2=3
x%5E2-8x%2B16=3
x%5E2-8x%2B13=0
Now that you have it in this form, you can apply the quadratic equation:
x=%288%2B-sqrt%28%28-8%29%5E2-%284%29%281%29%2813%29%29%29%2F2
x=%288%2B-sqrt%2864-52%29%29%2F2
x=%288%2B-sqrt%2812%29%29%2F2
x=(8+-2sqrt(3))/2
Cancel out a 2...
highlight%28x=4%2B-sqrt%283%29%29
Good Luck,
