Question 869327: The entire complex of the Taj Mahal is about 245 meters longer than it is wide. The area of the entire complex is about 167750 square meters. What are the dimensions of the entire complex? Explain your steps in finding the solution.
245w(w)=167750
W^2= 684
W= 26
I'm really stuck please help.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
I guess the shape is a rectangle although the problem doesn't quite state it.
For a rectangle the area is
A=L%2AW
You also know that,
L=245%2BW and A=167750
So then substitute,
167750=%28245%2BW%29W
W%5E2%2B245W-167750=0
You can factor this equation,
%28W-305%29%28W%2B550%29=0
Two solutions but only the positive width makes sense for this problem.
W-305=0
W=305m
Then,
L=245%2B305
L=550m
Verifying the solution,
A=305%28550%29
A=167750m%5E2
which is the expected answer.
