You can put this solution on YOUR website! Please help me factorise 3x^2 + x-2.
----------
It'll be
(3x + m)(x + n)
The signs of m & n are different.
3x² + x - 2
= 3x² + 3x - 2x - 2 {split x into two factors whose coefficients multiply to get -6 and add to get 1}
= 3x(x + 1) - 2(x + 1) {factored 3x out of first two terms and -2 out of last two terms}
= (3x - 2)(x + 1) {factored (x + 1) out of the two terms}
