let x^2 = p
x%5E2+-+2x+-+8+=+0
(x-4)(x+2) = 0
x = 4 ⇒ p = x^2 = 16 and...16+-+8+-+8+=+0
Note: x = -2( p = 4) is an extraneous solution as 4 -4 - 8 ≠ 0
