7-STEP RECIPE FOR MAKING A QUADRATIC EQUATION

1. Make up any two solutions that you want your quadratic equation
to have, say x = -3 and x = 3%2F4 [You may even pick them the same!]

2. Write these equations down side by side: x = -3 and x = 3%2F4

3. Clear of any fractions: 4x = 3

4. Get 0 on the right sides: x + 3 = 0 and 4x - 3 = 0

5. Multiply equals by equals: (x + 3)(4x - 3) = 0

6. Foil out the left side: 4x² - 3x + 12x - 9 = 0

7. Combine the middle two terms: 4x² + 9x - 9 = 0

That's how to make a quadratic equation!

Hello,
Here's one way.
Draw a rectangle and label the measurement of the width as x-2 and the length
as x+4. Let's suppose the area of the rectangle is 50 square feet.
We know the area is Width times Length so:
(x-2)(x+4)=50
Multiply this out and we get:
x^2+2x-8=50
There we go.
Make sense?
