 +3x%2B1+=+%28x-3%29%28x-3%29+

    3x+1 = x^2 - 6x + 9

    x^2 - 9x+ 8 = 0

factoring

 (x-1)(x-8) = 0

 (x-1)= 0  x = 1 an Extraneous solution:  2 + 3 ≠ 1

 (x-8) = 0 x = 8
