Hi
Let x and (x+5in) represent the width and length respectively
Question states***
2(x+5in) + 2x = 30in
Solving for x
4x = 20
x = 5in, the width. The length is 10in (5in + 5in)
CHECKING our Answer***
2*10in + 2*5in = 20in + 10in = 30in

Let the length of a rectangle is x, then the width is x-5.
The perimeter is 2%2A%28a+%2B+b%29+=+2%2A%28x+%2B+%28x+-+5%29%29+=+30.
Then:
2%2A%28x+%2B+x+-+5%29+=+30
2%2A%282x+-+5%29+=+30
4x+-+10+=+30
4x+=+40
x+=+10
x+-+5+=+5
Answer: the length of a rectangle is 10 inches and the width is 5 inches.
