By the quadratic formula, n+=+%28-b+%2B-+sqrt%28b%5E2+-+4ac%29%29%2F2a, where n is a root of the quadratic 2n%5E2+-+12n+-+14. Just replace a = 2, b = -12 and c = -14 and simplify.
