First you transfer the terms to left side of the = sign.
5x^2-11x-17=0
x+=+%28-b+%2B-+sqrt%28+b%5E2-4%2Aa%2Ac+%29%29%2F%282%2Aa%29+
x=(11+-sqrt[-11^2-4*5*17])/2*5
x=(11+-sqrt[121-340])/10
x=(11+-sqrt-219)/10
x=(11+-14.8i)/10
x=11/10+-1.48i
x=1.1+-1.48i ans.
