y=3x%5E2%2B4x%2B1
dy%2Fdx=6x%2B4=-2
6x%2B4=-2
6x=-6
x=-1
So at the point x=-1, the slope of the tangent line equals -2.
At that point,
y=3x%5E2%2B4x%2B1=3-4-1=-2
So then
y=-2x%2Bb
-2=-2%28-1%29%2Bb
b=-4
and the equation of the tangent line is,
y=-2x-4
