t%5E2-8t+=+-40 Now add the square of half the coefficient of the t-term to both sides. This is %28-8%2F2%29%5E2+=+16
t%5E2-8t%2B16+=+-40%2B16 Simplify.
%28t-4%29%5E2+=+-24 Take the square root of both sides.
t-4+=+sqrt%28-24%29 or t-4+=+-sqrt%28-24%29 Add 4 to both sides of each solution.
