this is on my worksheet called- quadratic equations and complex numbers.

(-6+12i)+(4-i)
Im not really sure where to start.
I tried to look in the book to see how to do it, but that confused me more.
I tried switching the 12i over to the other side, and the same with 4.
But i didnt get the right answer, im sure.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
You can't 'switch' these two numbers over. You are given coordinates that include both a real and an imaginary component
%28-6%2B12i%29%2B%284-i%29
You can combine the real parts and you can combine the imaginary parts, but you cannot combine real to imaginary. They are different beasts, so they can't combined (they are apples and oranges)
The imaginary parts include 'i' in them. So group the real parts and the imaginary parts
%28-6%2B12i%29%2B%284-i%29
%28-6%2B4%29+%2B+%2812i-i%29
Now combine them
-2+%2B+11i
That is all you can do.
