Question 129299: Hello i am stuck on this problem and was wondering if you can help.
a picture frame measures 15 in. by 13 in. there is 156 in squared of picture showing. the frame is of uniform thickness. find the thickness of the frame.
some more information there is a drawn box. that has (15-2x) and (13-2x) in it also. Answer by solver91311(24713) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! If the thickness of the frame is x, and there are two thicknesses in each dimension, and the outer dimensions are 15 X 13, then the inside .dimensions must be 15 - 2x and 13 - 2x, and these also happend to be the dimensions of the picture that is showing.
So, since the area of the picture that is showing is 156, we can say:
All you have to do is multiply this out and solve the resulting quadratic. If you need help with that, write back.
