Depends. If the variable represents the area of the lot, then it is a linear relationship. If the variable represents one dimension of the lot and it is multiplied by a linear function of that variable representing the other dimension of the lot, then you do have a quadratic function. If you have two variables then you have a 2nd-degree multi-variate function. The point is, next time you ask us a question, please tell the whole story.
