You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Find y if (y^2 - 9y + 8)/(y-1} + (3y^2 +16y-12)/(3y -2) = -3.
Assume this is the problem
%28%28y%5E2+-+9y+%2B+8%29%29%2F%28%28y-1%29%29 + %28%283y%5E2+%2B16y-12%29%29%2F%28%283y+-2%29%29 = -3
Both numerators can be factored
%28%28y-1%29%28y-8%29%29%2F%28%28y-1%29%29 + %28%283y-2%29%28y%2B6%29%29%2F%28%283y-2%29%29 = -3
Notice now we can cancel both denominators (greatly simplifies things!)
(y-8) + (y+6) = -3
2y - 2 = -3
2y = -3 + 2
2y = -1
y = -1%2F2

Check our solution in the original equation, replacing y with -1/2
