You can put this solution on YOUR website!
let the fraction be x/y
1 is added to the denominator of the fraction
x/(y+1)=1/5(cross multiply)
5x=y+1
5x-y=1------->(eq1)
now,when 1 is subtracted from its numerator
(x-1)/y=1/7 (cross multiply)
7x-7=y
7x-y=7---->(eq2)
Subtracting eq 2 from 1
-2x=-6
X=3
Put value of x in eq 1
5x-y=1
5*3-y=1
15-y=1
-y=1-15
-y=-14
y=14
ans can be checked by substituting values of x and y in any equation either 1 or 2

When 1 is added to the denominator of a fraction, the fraction becomes 1/5 but when 1 is subtracted from its numerator, it becomes 1/7.Find the fraction
--------------------
n/(d+1) = 1/5
(n-1)/d = 1/7
--------
d+1 = 5n
d = 7n - 7
-----------
7n-6 = 5n
n = 3
d = 14
--> 3/14
