Very straightforward, all you need to do is multiply the two expressions to obtain the area (the multiplying/simplifying can get tedious though).

I sometimes wonder -- what was the author of the textbook thinking when he wrote that problem? The problem is not very realistic at all; it'd be better to save the polynomial multiplication for other problems.
