You are absolutely correct. I have been trying to help out and quite a few student ask questions in a way where it cannot be answered. But these are only an isolated few more look really like thought out questions.

Also students, please put parentheses wherever they need to go. For example, if I see something like

5/x-4^2 = 1

I have no idea what it means because there are multiple ways to interpret the question.
