Question 1207467: Calculate the approximate mass in kg of a 2-m length of cylindrical clay pipe of external and internal diameters 15 cm and 12 cm. The density of clay is 1.3 g/cm³ Answer by ikleyn(52794) (Show Source):
Find the volume of the clay material and multiply it by the density of clay.
To find the volume of the clay material, from the volume of the greater cylinder subtract the volume of the smaller cylinder.
Also, the density of clay is (according to all available sources) from 2 g/cm^3 to 3 g/cm^3.
The most acceptable value for clay density in engineering practice is about 2.6 g/cm^3.
Surely, it heavily depends on the fact if the clay is wet or dried,
but the value of 1.3 g/cm^3 for clay density looks far out of common sense.
