Paula is building a rectangular patio.
It will have a square flower bed in the middle.
The rest will have paving stones.
The patio will have a length of 4x and a width of 3.1x.
Find the area of the patio
4x * 3.1x = 12.4x^2
:
The area of the flower bed will be 3.52.
What area of the patio will need paving stones?
12.4x^2 - 3.52 = paving stone area

You can put this solution on YOUR website!

the area of patio is
A%5B1%5D=4x%2A3.1x
A%5B1%5D=12.4x%5E2

The area of the flower bed will be A%5B2%5D=3.52, and since we have a square flower bed, the length of the side is
x=sqrt%283.52%29=1.88

The area of the paving stones is the area of patio minus the area of the flower bed
A=A%5B1%5D-A%5B2%5D
A=12.4x%5E2-+3.52
A=12.4%2A1.88%5E2-+3.52
A=40.31->the area of the paving stones
