In a quadratic equation ax%5E2%2Bbx%2Bc=0, the sum of the roots is -b/a and the product of the roots is c/a.

The product of the two roots is 50, so the other root is 50%2F%28-7%2Bi%29+=+%28-7-i%29

The sum of the two roots is -14; the sum of the roots is also -a. So a = 14.
