The logic of the solution in the post by @mananth is incorrect.
I came to bring a correct solution.
If the dress was sold for 1500 after a discount of 25%, it means that
0.75x = 1500,
where 'x' was the original price.
From this equation, we find
x = = 2000.
ANSWER. The original price was 2000 monetary units.
Or you can do it this way:
Let the original price be P.
Then the discount will be 25% of P, or 0.25P
We subtract the discount 0.25P from the original price P to get
the sale price 1500
P - 0.25P = 1500
1.00P - 0.25P = 1500
0.75P = 1500
P = 1500/0.75
P = 2000
