log 30 means 10^X=30.
X = 1.477
Think about this -
10^1 =10
10^2=100
now, 10^.5 is the square root of 10 or 3.162
So 10^1.5=31.62
It makes sense that it takes a bit lower, 1.477 so 10^1.477=30
