3p-8=13-4p
okay so since your solving for p you want p on one side of the equation so you want to move the smaller p to the other side, since -4 is smaller than 3p because its negative you do the opposite of subtraction(negative) and add 4p to the both sides of the equation.
3p-8=13-4p
+4p +4p

7p-8=13
you want to get p separate so you need to get rid of the 8 and 7, what you do to one side you need to do to the other side
7p-8=13
+8 +8
7p=21
divide both sides by 7
p=3
