Answer by KMST(5328) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! When the digit that is going to be discarded is 5 or more,
the digit to its left is increased by 1.
Otherwise the digit to the left is unchanged
According to the rules above,
245 rounds to 250 to the nearest ten, and 244 rounds to 240,
because the digit that is going to be discarded is the 5 or 4 at the units place,
and when the digit to be discarded is 5 or more,
the digit to its left (in this case the 4 in the tens place) is increased by 1,
but otherwise the digit to the left is unchanged
So is the smallest number that rounds to 250 to the nearest ten.
Similarly, according to the rules above,
254 rounds to 250 to the nearest ten, and 255 rounds to 260.
So is the largest number that rounds to 250 to the nearest ten.
Numbers greater than do not round to 250 to the nearest ten.
Numbers smaller than do not round to 250 to the nearest ten.
Out of the numbers from 1 to 254,
the first (1 to 244) do not round to 250 to the nearest ten.
So, the number of numbers that round to 250 to the nearest ten is
.
